Munnspill
Solo album (2025)
On Munnspill, Anders Lillebo explores the traditional music of the Norwegian–Swedish borderlands — performed entirely on harmonica!
Once a familiar sound in these regions, the instrument is today rarely heard in a folk music setting. Drawing inspiration from old fiddle tunes, archival recordings and early folk harmonica players such as Torleif Snerten (1894–1974) from Engerdal, Anders has developed a personal approach that captures both the rhythmic drive and tonal colours of the local traditions.
“A burst of feeling, virtuosity and deep traditional knowledge runs through the entire production. Lillebo’s musicality shines through in every note.”
—Folkemusikk magazine (NO)
The album was recorded at Hallibakken Lydstudio with sound engineer Tor Magne Hallibakken, and released on the label Melovitten in 2025.
Guest appearances by Swedish fiddler Mats Berglund add another layer to the project, linking it to the shared musical heritage of Østerdalen, Finnskogen, Dalarna and Värmland.
Through Munnspill, Anders seeks to rediscover the harmonica as a traditional folk instrument — one capable of expressing both the lyrical phrasing and percussive energy of the fiddle tradition. The project has led to a growing interest in the harmonica within the Nordic folk community, and forms the foundation for Anders’ current live work and upcoming collaborations.
